LVYAO Summer Program

If you live in Las Vegas and play an instrument, you can play chamber music along with other fellow musicians around the area during the summer.

This past summer The Dr. Shirley Linzy Las Vegas Young Artists Orchestra, successfully hosted a chamber music camp for young musicians during the Covid-19 pandemic. The camp allowed students to work and perform alongside a YAO Faculty member or visiting artists. Students attended daily rehearsals at the YAO Space and also met online with their respective mentoring artists

Safety protocols were in place as Covid-19 was present. Participants were subject to all safety protocols including social distancing (6 ft), wearing masks, and entry temperature checks. The facility went through intense cleaning and sanitation each day. Only 3-5 students were allowed in the room at a time and students remained 6 ft apart throughout their respective rehearsals and performance.

For the Summer Chamber Camp, it is open to all string players up to ages 10-22Wind/brass students may apply, but participation is subject to instrumentation. Pre-formed groups are also welcome to join and play. Students can attend 2 different sessions or they can come to both sessions with a tuition of $150/week or $250 for both weeks. Session 1 was from July 13 – 17 and Session 2 was from July 20 – 24. Each group met and worked with their Mentor Artist for up to 2 hours per day. Some classes were held online and some were in person. All rehearsals were hosted at the YAO Space in Maryland Square at 3661 S. Maryland Parkway next to the Adelson Clinic.

The faculty for the 2020 camp included renowned staff from the Young Artists Orchestra program: Yuri Cho and Susan Kim (violins), Yunior Lopez and Kerry Bennett (violas), Andy Smith and Moonlight Tran (cellos), Brycen Ingersoll (double bass). Additional guest artists and events to be announced.
